- HED were the partners to GE Healthcare for skilling of Class 12+ students in Radiology in 2017-2019
- HED partnered with Medica Hospitals – Ranchi for setting up the training institute
- The course was endorsed by HSSC (Health Sector Skill Council)
- HED hired trainers and conducted these year long radiology courses
- Students has come in from rural areas of Bihar and Jharkhand
- A few students were educated till the masters level; however all of them did not have a job
- They found this course as an opportunity towards a brighter future, and maybe land a job that was so elusive
- They all had summer placements as well as end of course placements
- Most importantly, this course was free for the students, as GE Healthcare supported by TATA Trusts paid for the radiology technicians couse
- The entire Batch 1 (comprising of 15 students) were placed in some of the leading hospitals of Eastern India
- Looking at this success, there were plenty of students who applied for the second batch – and the entire batch was similarly placed in some of the leading hospitals of Eastern India
- We however had difficulties in sustaining the venture and therefore decided to exit the partnerships
Our Understanding:
- India is a huge market for talent; it’s important to give them the right platform to the candidates
- Once we show the students the way, they are capable of expanding their own horizons – some of the students went on for higher courses in Radiology
- It’s important for government and corporates to fund such initiatives so that organizations can help skill India
- There are always plenty of jobs for such students in hospitals and organizations across India and the neighboring countries
